Old Fashion LOC Tour

Kleos(V11) in the LOC - Photo: Aidas Rygelis

On Sunday Krissy, Aidas and I went out to the LOC for a tour of some old, classic boulder problems. We went to Corn and Bung, Scoop, Area 51, and the House boulder. Some of the problems that we got on where: Jackpot, Cornholio, Can't trust Skinny people, Joe Boxer, Ressurection, Captain Hook, Pirahna, Bop Gun, When Stars Attack, Back on Track, Kleos, and JACK's arette. All really, really good problems. My skin was absolutely trashed by the end.

Krissy is gettting very close to Joe Boxer after her second time out to the problem. I just enjoyed getting out to some old classics that I have not been on in years. A nice surprise was climbing Resurrection (V10), first try after not being on the thing in a long, long time. When Stars Attack was also a nice one to get on again - it is really hard. Anyway, we had a pretty good day, (despite all the bugs!) and ticked a bunch of problems.

Hephalump Evening Session

A couple shots from a quick evening session the other night. I climbed and played around on some old problems while Krissy got in some studying (for real she was study OT stuff...).

Projects in Halifax

We able to get out climbing on Saturday to Duck Head. The conditions we the best we have had yet since being back in Nova Scotia. This was the first time I had been to Duck Head in like 6-8 years. I had heard that the ocean had changed things a bit out there, but had know idea how much. It was amazing to see the massive pieces of rock that have been moved!

I went out to try two undone lines and Krissy went out to find a new project for herself. She found one in Low Tide (V6ish). She actually came really close to sending it in just one afternoon for what I think is probably going to be the first female ascent of the line. I think she should be able to do it easily next time out.

I went out to try Rip Tide and Strong Boy. Rip Tide wend fairly well and may go down next time out. It is really hard on the skin so you only get so many goes before it become too painful to try anymore. Strong Boy was another story. It is REALLY hard, but possible. I think it is likely the hardest thing I have ever been on. I had one really good go on the crux move and felt actually somewhat close to sticking it. My right hand actually stayed on the crux hold and my left blew off the good pinch - so maybe it is possible to climb this thing someday...after a lot of work.

Trailer

Here is the trailer for our low-budget, low-tech, lo-fi, zero HD production. Maybe to be seen at a Christmas party near you....We are working on it in our spare time for the next couple of months.

Starting to climb again - Bouldering in Halifax

Sunset near Prospect Bay

Inbangyang - V8

So we finally went out to do some bouldering around Halifax. We have just had two short sessions the last couple of days. My motivation has not been that great to climb after returning from our trip - major post trip depression I guess...I think maybe by avoiding climbing I don't get reminded of all the fun I had this summer living on the road. I'm sure my motivation to climb will come back it just will take some time to adjust to "normal" life again.

Krissy has been fairly motivated to get out and climb. She made huge improvements in her climbing this summer and does not want to take too much time off and loose all the fitness she worked so hard to gain. She has already begun working a couple of new projects here in Halifax and climbed a couple of problems she could not do last year when we came down to climb in the LOC.

Now we are off to do some real life errands (yuck!) and climb of course...

The new apt.

We are finally all moved in. Just a couple of small things left to do. Here is what the place looks like as of today.

Over

Sept 2

We are back in New Brunswick as of 3am this morning. It was a long travel day. We woke up at 4:30am France time and then began our long trip home. After about 8 hours on the plane and another 8 or so big mac, redbull fueled hours of driving we arrived in Minto at Krissy's parents place. It was nice to be somewhere familiar and wake up with a roof over our heads. We just finished a great breakfast and are going to take a couple of days here to visit with friends and family – and eat as much as possible!

On Saturday we will make our move to Halifax, Nova Scotia. I am pretty excited about this as it will mean I get to still boulder outside as much as I want. Maybe the climbing is not quite as good as Font, but I think it is still really, really good even after visiting some of the best areas in Europe this summer. I say for sure that now some of the best problems I have ever climbed are in Halifax.

Even though the Europe trip is over we are still planning on keeping the site updated with new photos and videos of our Halifax adventures – so check back every once in a while.

Over and Out.

p.s. Krissy tried Duroxmanie until she could not pull anymore. She was so, so close to sending it. I guess we will have to go back someday so she can finish up her unfinished business. Project...
